As an International Baccalaureate World School with strong community partnerships, Highton Primary School commits to international standards of excellence.
Our vision is; “As an IB World School, with strong community partnerships, we commit to excellence and the development of principled, compassionate, lifelong learners, who know they can take action to make a difference to our world.” We deliver a challenging, globally significant curriculum that addresses individual differences and learning styles. The school has recently completed a major building project with facilities and an environment that is designed with the needs of 21st century learners in mind. Well maintained grounds offer extensive opportunities for active and passive play.
The school caters for the development of the whole child encompassing their academic, social, emotional, physical and cultural needs in an environment that fosters inter-cultural understanding and respect. During 2009 the school community achieved authorisation as an International Baccalaureate (Primary Years Program) World School. This is an achievement of which the whole-school community is extremely proud.
Parents actively support the school and value the small community setting in the way their children are educated, nurtured and engaged. They also value the commitment of teaching staff, their approach to inquiry learning and their ability to make a difference for each and every student. The school council enthusiastically provides support for all aspects of the school.
In 2010 Highton PS developed a new Strategic Plan and the school’s goals are: To improve learning outcomes for all students with a focus on literacy and numeracy, for all students to feel empowered, connected and excited by their learning, and to ensure that all students have a smooth, planned and logical progression into, through and beyond the school.” Highton is an inclusive school that takes pride in catering for every child as an individual. The school recognises that each child has different needs and the teaching and learning reflects this understanding.
We love our school.
